“This studio is soooo sweet! So much rad gear and we were so stoked to record and mix here! Jeb is a Jedi Master.”

“Home is a special place… Home is where your family is. Home is where you’re most at ease. Home is where you’re safe and open and inspired. Home is where you create almost all your most priceless memories. Jeb Lipson is family, and BIGSCARYTREE STUDIOS is home. My band, Veronica Grim & The Heavy Hearts, is strange. Our music seems to defy explanation – outlaw country southern rock pop rockabilly punk gumbo with a hint of metal?? Who knows? Whatever we are, capturing the unique sound and spirit of the band is no easy task. Jeb more than lived up to that challenge – he exceeded every expectation my band mates and I had. Jeb’s technical prowess is undeniable. He has decades of training and life experience informing his extraordinary ear – which is a blessing to any recording effort one could hope to undertake. He is a band whisperer – always giving solid advice without being pushy, respecting the sound and putting in the hours until it is truly inviting – truly RIGHT. Jeb has vast and varied tastes and an innate sense of what intangible something every song needs. Over and above Jeb’s patience, talent and great sense of humor, he has an AMAZING collection of gear and knows how to use it. Jeb was happy to lend my bandmates and me anything in his collection to bring out the best in our songs. Incredible items from Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Marshall, Vox (and many more) are literally STUFFED into BIGSCARYTREE in the best way. As cliche as it might sound, we felt like we’d won Golden Tickets to the Wonka Factory every time we went to work on our record. The atmosphere at the studio is warm, clean, friendly and relaxed. It’s a studio of such caliber and quality it SHOULD be intimidating – but the beautiful vista, good humor and comfortable furnishings make it a sweet escape. Finally, let it be said that Jeb is more than reasonable when it comes to his rates – especially considering the quality of his ear, gear and results. I cannot overstate his fairness and coolness. I can honestly say that I recommend recording at BIGSCARYTREE STUDIOS with Jeb Lipson 110%. He’s the George Martin to our Beatles. We already plan to record our next album there with him and we aren’t even done mastering the one we just finished! Plus – interesting side note – I am fully confident that in the event of a variety of apocalyptic scenarios, Jeb could both feed and protect my band for an EXTENSIVE amount of time…You’ll find out. Hats off to Sonic Wizard. Stay in the pocket. XOXO.”

“We just wrapped up a full length album here. If you’re into creating a honest, visceral and real album, you should hit Jeb up here at Big Scary Tree. He gets it- real music with real instruments with the intention of capturing that conviction. He’s a great guy first off and we couldn’t more appreciative of the time and effort he put into our project. He went above and beyond for our album and we are immensely grateful. He also has an impressive arsenal of vintage guitars/amps and analog recording gear to get the sound you’re after. Our album will be released in December so feel free to come check out a recent rock’n’roll project Jeb worked on. And, don’t forget to ask him about the squirrel floating down the river on his back.”

“I worked with Jeb and since 2005 I remain loyal, as does he. His downtown location was great. Lots of character, lots of special moments and great tones. The room was an odd shape, like an L, but sounded great. Everything Jeb touches is a testament to his ears, engineering and soul. We followed him during his move and relocation to Porter Ranch. He was still mixing with all his gear scattered or stored around him – just a desk and some monitors in a rehearsal space. He has an incredible work-ethic. It’s hard to find an engineer like Jeb and we’ll follow him anywhere. Especially OUT of Porter Ranch and as far away from his partner as possible! Looks like Sunland is the next destination. Big Scary Tree 3.0. Same awesome collections of guitars, same great ears, same feel, same vibe, great rate and another LP in the can. Thank you Jeb for building another great room, being a great mentor, friend and always pushing us to hit the right notes. I look forward to making music with Jeb at Big Scary Tree for a very long time.”

“Jeb, thanks for the awesome sounding. CD! Everyone is blown away on how great everything sounds. Big Scary Tree rules!”

“THANK YOU for everything. You have challenged me and kept my music full of soul. You have such a gift. I feel honored that you have shared it with me.”

“Jeb, we just made a MASTERPIECE. EVERYTHING Jeb says on this page about his studio is true, and then some. Butt Trumpet has recorded there and frankly, I’ve NEVER done a better recording, anywhere. Jeb is the best engineer I’ve ever worked with. How can I explain it: he “gets it” he really does. He’s a damn great friend besides. I’ll never shut up about Big Scary Tree. Never.”

“Big Scary Tree is where we get our best sounds, hands down. The live room sounds great; the mic locker, console, and outboard gear sounds great; and Jeb does a stellar job at dialing in sounds. Also, guitar players–Jeb actually takes care of his instruments and amps! A rare, rare find.”

“Big Scary Tree is a great recording studio. It has a good drum room and tons of analog vintage gear. Jeb is awesome and consistently made sure that we had everything we needed to get the job done. A+”
